History
NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation) is the world's largest provider of telecommunications services, with approximately 60 million customers in Japan alone.

The company traces its roots back to 1869 and the introduction of the telegraph in Japan. Originally wholly government-owned, NTT was privatized in 1985. Since then, the company has been diversifying extensively, building new subsidiaries, developing emerging technologies and expanding into new markets.

As of March 31, 2005, the NTT Group had grown to 542 companies and 201,000 employees worldwide. The group's operating revenue reached $101 billion.
NTT Family
The NTT Group has four major subgroups based on their line of business. Major subsidiaries of NTT include: NTT Communications, a global data communications service provider; NTT DoCoMo, a mobile communications carrier; NTT Data Corporation, Japan's largest systems integrator; NTT East and NTT West, two local incumbent carriers in Japan.
